Adding Value to Your Home with Easy DIY Projects

We touched about how you can use this time to prepare your home for sale, but what about if you’re not planning on selling for a couple years? Well, this is still a great time to tackle some easy DIY projects around your house that will pay off when you’re ready to sell.

Some easy DIY yard projects to take on include the following:

  • Pull Weeds – take some time every day to clear sections of the yard from any unsightly weeds. Do small areas every day to make it easier to get finished over time.
  • Organize & Clean Tools – Maybe it’s time to get rid of that rusty rake or scrub the rust off the shovel. Take inventory and get rid of anything you don’t use or need.
  • Update your Mailbox – A new coat of paint will refresh your mailbox, or plant some eye-catching long-lasting flowers around the post to draw the eye.
  • Spruce up Garden Pots – Paint the pots on your porch or give them a good wash to add some color/freshness to your yard.

Or maybe tackle the bathroom, try these projects:

  • Change out the Lights – Yellow lights out, white light is in! Change the lighting fixtures, or simply replace the bulbs with a white light that can make a room seem brighter & newer.
  • Re-Tile – Replace the tile in the shower/tub area, or floor. A white tile or marble can really freshen up a room, and you can shop for tiles online at a variety of home improvement stores.
  • Add some Amenities – A new towel rack, towel warmer, new showerhead or storage solution could elevate your bathroom and are all easy to install.
  • Change Hardware – Trying to update your bathroom on a budget? Changing out the handles and knobs on your cabinets is the easy way to make a statement & add a touch of something new.

Your kitchen looking a little old? Update them with these easy projects:

  • Paint the Cabinets – Cabinets can easily make or break a kitchen space, so a fresh coat of paint can freshen up faded or dated cabinets. Add new hardware and you can update your kitchen on a low budget.
  • Change the Faucet – A new fixture can add a sense of newness to your kitchen, and the upgrade can add some new functionality to your sink too. Score!
  • Add Seating – If you have the space, consider creating a additional seating by adding a small table & chairs, or turning a half wall into a little breakfast bar. Adding a kitchen island can add a lot of value to your kitchen.
  • New Organization – Add some storage solutions, like glass jars for dry goods or a divider for your utensils. Not only will this help you stay organized, but will show potential buyers at a later date how to best use the space.

These easy DIY projects can easily add value to your living spaces, and to your home. Why you may not be ready to sell in the next couple of months, hardware changes and lighting changes last for years, for when you are ready.
